Abstract

STUDY OF CHINESE language and culture is a humanistic technology, complex and time-consuming, which is nevertheless important and necessary for every modern people. Mainland China will have increasing contact with other countries, and through size alone will increasingly claim their attention. Understanding China will become more and more necessary in years ahead. Direct contact will provide a valuable basis for such understanding, but serious study will be even more essential for any people who want to have their own, independent view of Chinese problems.
