Abstract

The reaction of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene, N3P3Cl6 with pyridine-2-thiol affords only a geminal isomer, 1,1-bis(pyridyl-2-thio)-3,3,5,5-tetrachlorocyclotriphosphazene. Crystallographic characterization discloses that the nitrogen atom of the pyridine-2-thiolate group significantly interacts with the phosphorus atom of the cyclotriphosphazene ring. The intramolecular N···P interaction seems to hinder further substitution at other untouched phosphorus atoms.
