Abstract

The Pacific Northwest Region held its annual meeting in Portland, Oregon, November 13–14, 1958, with a total registration of 80 but with about 150 persons attending one or more of the sessions. About 15 papers were presented on various subjects with the theme of the IGY receiving particular emphasis. The highlight of the meeting was an address on the subject “Scientific Exploration of Space” by William H. Pickering, Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of California Institute of Technology. A financial report indicated that the assets of the region were $115.34 on July 1, 1958, and after the receipts and disbursements relating to the meeting in November, the balance was $133.34. Details for this report were transmitted by Wilbur D. Simons, Chairman of the Pacific Northwest Regional Group.
