Unilateral tongue swelling, a rare and interesting case of idiopathic tongue abscess

Abstract

Introduction: Lingual abscess, a potentially life-threatening condition, is a rare clinical presentation despite the tongue being exposed to foreign bodies and trauma frequently. Most of the abscesses are reported as a lump on the anterior and middle third of the tongue or less frequently on the base of the tongue.
