Abstract

Two new infinite coordination polymers (ICPs) based on manganese and/or nickel and bi-carboxylic ligand, 4,4′-((1E,1′E)-(1,4-phenylene bis(methanylylidene)) bis(azanylylidene)) dibenzoic acid were prepared by precipitation and hydrothermal methods. Elemental analysis data are in good agreement with 1:1 ratio of metal and bi-carboxylic acid functionalized ligand (BCFL). FT-IR spectra confirmed the coordination of carboxylic groups via η2-coordination mode. The scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) images showed monodispersed nanoparticles with diameter below 100 nm. These ICP nanoparticles were converted to metal oxide nanoparticles by thermal decomposition. The morphology of the as-prepared oxides did not change but their size was smaller than corresponding ICP precursors.
