Abstract
SUMMARY. — Edition and commentary on an important unpublished letter of Joseph Fourier (18 May 1797) concerning teaching of mathematics at the Ecole polytechnique and a project for coordinating this with teaching at the Ecole du Génie de Metz. Some background on the history of the Ecole Polytechnique and the biography of Fourier around this period are also included in the article.
