Abstract

A write equalization (W.E.) scheme for digital tape recording has been proposed for suppressing saturation and nonlinearity in MR readback[l]. To utilize and optimize the scheme at high linear recording densities, in-depth understanding of the underlying physics is critically needed. For this purpose, we have developed a model by combining a self-consistent depth-dependent recording simulator with micromagetic MR head model for readback. The magnetization configurations and transition profiles resulted with W.E. are shown for the first time. The results are very eliciting for optimizing W.E. at high linear densities.
