Abstract
The pondok education system is one of the oldest Islamic schools in the archipelago. This study aims to determine the state, or “pulse,” of research concerning pondok education using bibliometrics and content analysis. Scopus and Web of Science are the central databases to extract pondok education-related datasets. The dynamic duo of ScientoPy and VOSviewer were used to analyse the retrieved information. The time frame of analysis in this study was from 1990 to 2021, and it found 625 publications, consisting of 276 (WoS) and 349 (Scopus). The bibliometric results indicate that pondok education research development has begun to attract much scientific consideration since 2008. Indonesia has become the top country contributing to publications, authors, and institutions. In the meantime, the content analysis results illustrate that the keyword “pesantren” or “pondok pesantren” is ranked first and has a strong relationship with “kyai” and “santri.” This study provides academics, researchers, and practitioners with a step forward in terms of novel research for researching pondok education. The results of this study indicate that pondok education can increase educational possibilities by investigating how to improve research pertinent to the strategy, improvement, and maintenance of cleanliness.
