Abstract
Hermanfrid Schubart has been one of the most active and influential archaeologists of the 20th century in the field of the prehistory of the Iberian Peninsula. He not only excavated and investigated a series of outstanding sites of the Copper, Bronze and Iron Ages, but also achieved an important methodological advance by his conviction that any understanding of the organisation of prehistoric societies requires the extensive excavation of settlements and a multi-disciplinary approach. This interview of slightly over an hour focuses on his professional experiences and on the German Archaeological Institute, from a scientific but also political perspective.
