Abstract

The document published here is the transcription of the presentation of Pietro Scoppola’s book, La Repubblica dei partiti, yet unpublished, on October 8, 1991, in which the author discusses his book with five outstanding Italian scholars (Gabriele De Rosa, Mario G. Rossi, Ernesto Galli della Loggia, Renzo De Felice and Francesco Malgeri). This document reveals some interesting passages of an intense historical debate developed in those years, which reflected different perspectives on recent Italian history. The roundtable helps reconstructing this debate and its peculiarities through the opinions of the five scholars on the themes of Scoppola’s book: while in some cases they criticised him, in general they appreciated the originality of his theses.
