Abstract

This study makes a contribution to the methodological discussion about taxonomic determination of camelids. Results about differentiation between wild and domestic species, using mixed archacological records with a high degree of morphological similarity especially in units with low diagnosis power, are presented . The taxonomic determination was performed in two steps. Firstly, contrasting morphological indicators, secondly using osteometric methods. We found the presence Lama Guanicoe, Lama Glama, Vicugna Vicugna and probably Lama Pacos. The archaeofaunistical remains belong from the formative sites Topaler and Chiu-Chiu 273 (Middle Loa) and were placed as offering in both cemeteries.
