Um caso de migração intermedial de personagens: bécassine et corto maltese em três novelas breves de Chantal Thomas

Abstract

This paper examines an unusual case of interaction between literature and comics, which consists of re-appropriation of characters from comics to literary narratives. The characters are Becassine and Corto Maltese and the literary narratives are three short short stories from La vie reelle des petites filles, by Chantal Thomas. We approach the intermedial migration of the two characters through the concept of transfictionality, created by Richard Saint-Gelais to refer to the sharing of fictional features – character being the central element in this process – by two or more texts (“text” here should be read in a broader sense including different media and modes). The study of the three short short stories allows us to identify form(s) and meaning(s) of literary re-appropriation of Becassine, a founding character of the francophone comics, and her crossing with Corto Maltese in a book about the shaping of genre identity in stories about little girls but not for little girls.
