Abstract
The growth of deposited and co-deposited epitaxial overlayers of pure transition metals (TM) A and TM ordered compounds (AcA’1-c) is related to their electronic structure and to the phase and surface stabilities of the corresponding bulk materials. We use a simple tight binding model (TBM) and the recursion method to get general trends. We show that a layer by layer or bilayer by bilayer growth of a compound AcA’1-c is possible even if one of the constituents of the compound has a high surface energy.
