Abstract
Plasmid DNA (pBARGUS), containing the selectable bar gene for resistance to the herbicide Basta, was delivered into potato tuber discs via ultrasonication. Transformed plants were identified by their ability to grow on a medium containing 1mg phosphinothricin/l. Southern hybridization and plant resistance to the application of Basta indicated that a functional bar gene had integrated into potato chromosomal DNA.
