Abstract

The available data on velocities of longitudinal and transverse elastic waves propagating along the main crystallographic directions in the crystals of tetrachlorozincates A 2 ZnCl 4 : A = K, NH 4 , Rb, including results of ultrasound and Brillouin scattering measurements, have been collected and presented in the reduced temperature scale covering the three phase transitions. In the incommensurate phase transition only longitudinal waves reveal an anomalous jump change depending on the ionic radius of the cation A.
