Abstract

The primary objective is to determine changes in ultrasonic attenuation during the ceramization process of glass. Two variables, the third power of the average grain diameter, D, and the fourth power of the ultrasonic frequency, f, are considered. The ultrasonic attenuations in glass-ceramic produced from Li 2 O-SiO 2 glasses were measured as a function of frequency after subjecting the samples to heat treatments. Heat treatments of samples were varied by holding them at nucleation temperature for different periods of time; all samples were subjected to the same crystal growth treatment. Attenuation data obtained on these samples were used to correlate with the microstructure of the glass-ceramic produced
