Abstract

Ultrasonic butt welding of anticorrosive aluminum and copper plate specimens is studied. Ultrasonic butt welding equipment of 19 kHz frequency is used. The ultrasonic vibration source uses eight bolt-clamped Langevin type PZT transducers of 50 mm diameter driven by 10 kW to 50 kW power amplifiers. Welding specimens used are anticorrosive aluminum and copper plates of 6 mm thickness and 7 mm to 14 mm width. These welding specimens are successfully joined end to end with anticorrosive aluminum specimen strength of about 250 MPa. Required power for joining these specimens is 7-9 kW/cm2.
