Abstract

Ultralong α-MnO2 nanowires with length longer than 100μm have been prepared in gram-scale using a facile hydrothermal method without any template. The MnO2 was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution TEM (HRTEM). Time-dependent experiment was made to study the growth process of the nanowires. The ultralong nanowires were assembled into free-standing membrane through hydrogen bond and used for adsorption of methyl violet. The MnO2 nanowires exhibited excellent absorption ability and reusability for the dye of methyl violet. Even within 5 cycles, the absorption rate of α-MnO2 maintains still as high as 99%.
