Abstract

The activities of Co-based ultrafine particles (UFP) catalysts for the liquid phase FT synthesis were investigated at 270°C and 30 atm. Cr, Ti, and Mn were found to be effective additives to enhance the catalytic activity of Co UFP. Among these UFP catalysts, Co-Cr UFP exhibited the highest activity. The space time yield of hydrocarbons on this catalyst was 14.2 g Co-g−1 h−1, and was about 2 times as large as that of Co UFP. The activity of Co-Cr UFP catalyst was enhanced by an increase in the content of Cr, and reached a maximum when 2wt% Cr was added. Distribution of hydrocarbons produced was also affected by the content of Cr. Co UFP catalyst containing 2wt% Cr exhibited the lowest selectivity for methane production and the highest selectivity for liquid hydrocarbon fuel.
