Abstract

The single crystalline α-Fe2O3 nanorhombohedrons are synthesized by a facile solvothermal method followed with a subsequent annealing process. As-fabricated α-Fe2O3 nanorhombohedrons based sensor exhibits ultrafast response and recovery time (<1s/<1s), excellent selectivity and high response towards trimethylamine (TMA). Excellent gas sensing properties can be attributed to cooperative effect of unique nanorhombohedrons structure and rapid electron exchange between Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions. In addition, a possible growth mechanism is proposed. The excellent sensing properties and facile synthesis method make as-prepared α-Fe2O3 nanorhombohedrons a promising candidate for TMA detecting application.
