Abstract

An Asymmetric N-1 Platform (ANP) used in AC to DC power conversion with very high efficiency over wide load range is proposed. The platform can deliver a very high light-load power efficiency, i.e., 97% at 10% load, without sacrificing nominal load efficiency. Such high efficiency is achieved by controlling the number of active phases/modules in different output power to allow modules operating in its high efficiency region. A 9kW 3-phase ANP AC/DC power conversion system, 220V/50Hz AC, 375V DC experimental prototype has been built and evaluated. Operating principle, steady state and dynamic operation of the proposed solution will be explained.
