Abstract

1. 1. The sedimentation constant of potato latent mosaic virus protein was determined at various concentrations. A value of 123.5 Svedbergs was obtained for the sedimentation constant at infinite dilution. 2. 2. The sedimentation constant corrected for solution viscosity was not found to be invariant with virus protein concentration. This is a departure from the general behavior of virus characteristic particles. It is due, in part at least, to the presence of rapidly sedimenting aggregates which increase the viscosity as measured in a viscometer but which do not contribute to the solution viscosity of the principal sedimenting component. 3. 3. The apparent partial specific volume was determined to be 0.73 ml./g.
