Abstract

The design of an ultra wideband antenna for a ground penetrating radar system presents additional challenges to those for communication systems. In particular a novel in-pipe deployment requires the antenna to be placed in a buried pipe, and its width is greatly restricted. In this paper several antenna configurations are examined to meet these requirements. A dielectric loaded base tapered dipole configuration and a loaded folded dipole are seen to offer the best performance for this application. (5 pages)
