Abstract
An efficient design of ultra-narrowband optical comb filter based on the combined effect of Gaussian sampling and periodic chirp is proposed and numerically demonstrated. The spectral Talbot effect is utilized in the Gaussian-sampled-periodically-chirped fiber Bragg grating. It has been seen through our simulation that the channel counts or in-channel bandwidth can be controlled using the apodization with a Gaussian sampling function of the grating structure and the chirp coefficient. High reflectivity as well as very narrow channel width has been obtained using low refractive index modulation of the grating samples. In the proposed design, a high performance ultra-narrowband comb filter with in-channel bandwidth in the range of 2.7 GHz to 450 MHz has been realized.
