Abstract
We have read with interest the recent articles by Jill Steene (Vol. 4(7) 1996, p.368) and Catherine McCormick (Vol. 4(8) 1996, p.407). The UK Central Council (UKCC) position statement on practice nurses and their role in antenatal care (April 1996) provided clarification on what involvement they may have. As well as protecting the public the position statement created a foundation for local guidelines to enable practice nurses to clearly understand their own professional boundaries. Why then is there so much confusion?
