Abstract

Acne is a skin disease or inflammation that can occur due to blockages in the skin pores with signs of spots on the face area. One of the causes that can be acne is Propionibacterium acnes which is a bacteria that comes from acne. Acne treatment can be solved with the use of antibiotics, but they have side effects such as irritation. The utilization of plants can minimize irritation. The leaves of Buas-buas (Premna serratifolia Linn.) and secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan Linn.) are used by people as medicine and also have antibacterial efficacy. The research for determining the antibacterial activity of n-Hexane extract and Ethanol extract of the combination Buas-buas leaves and secang wood against the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. n-Hexane and Ethanol extract were obtained using a multiple maceration method and antibacterial activity using a disc diffusion method. The results of the research of n-hexane extract (Buas-buas : Secang) at a ratio of 2: 1 (150 ppm and 300 ppm) of inhibition zones that formed were 1.0 mm; 1,5 mm. Ethanol extract (Buas-buas : Secang) did not give the formed inhibition zone. n-Hexane extract can inhibit the growth of the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with a weak category, while the ethanol extract cannot inhibit the growth of the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.
