Abstract

Service discovery protocols and delivery mechanisms designed for fixed networks with central service management fall short of accomodating the complexities of the ad-hoc environment. In Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANETs) there is not network infrastructure and the topology may be highly dyanmic. In this paper we propose a service discovery and location protocol for MANETs called UDDI4m, which is based on the UDDI protocol, and that overcomes to lack of central management and fix topology due to MANETs by distributing the service information over an overlay network. This approach has the enormous advantages of being very flexible and fully compatible with standard service discovery systems, but uses, at the same time, system and communications adequate to MANETs.
