Abstract

This paper presents a layered service discovery (LSD) protocol in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). Service discovery is the key challenge for the pervasive personal environment for the lack of limited resources and high mobility. While a couple of existing service discovery protocols have been developed for the infrastructure-based wireless environment without considering the volatile characteristic of the multi-hops wireless network. We propose a layered service discovery protocol that utilizes directories acting as cluster head nodes and DHT to perform comprehensive service discovery in MANETs.
