Abstract

The research presented in the article is aimed at recognizing the techniques of gilding in painting from the region of the former Royal Prussia (the paintings come from the present provinces: Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian) in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries on the basis of a selected representative paintings. The analysis included 12 paintings: two epitaphs, two paintings by Anton Moller, two from his circle, dated to the 17th century and six paintings depicting protestant clergymen from the 18th century. The performed research of the materials used, with an attempt to clarify their characteristic features determined on the basis of mineralogical and geochemical tests will complement the knowledge on applied gilding techniques in the modern era in the present regions of Pomerania and Kujawy.
