Abstract

The distinctive features of intercrystalline fracture of metals and their welds are considered. We suggest the following classification of intercrystalline fracture: intercrystalline etching (IE), intercrystalline corrosion (IC), and intercrystalline corrosion cracking (ICC). The rate of corrosion that separates IE from IC is established. Local structural corrosion of weld joints is classified. We also investigate the problem of the presence of these types of corrosion in chemical and petrochemical equipment.
