Abstract

In recent years, efforts have been made again and again to systematise virus resistance types on the basis of the great diversity of phenotypic expressions of virus resistance and of the genetic virus-host interactions underlying that diversity. Two main types of constitutional virus resistance of plants — qualitative or localisation resistance, and quantitative or non-localisation resistance — are outlined in the present paper. These types are characterised by means of their genetic and other traits. Advantages and disadvantages for use in practice are discussed.
