Twórczość Olgi Tokarczuk na serbskim i chorwackim rynku książki

Abstract

Olga Tokarczuk is currently the most known and most translated Polish writer in Serbia and Croatia. Despite the linguistic closeness of the two languages the book markets, including the foreign literature translations, are growing separately, although it cannot be said that without and mutual influence. The reception of the creative output of the author of “Flights” is facilitated by a hefty financial backing from Poland. Croatian translators are more eager to work on shorter literary forms (essays, short stories), while in Serbia the interest sways more to the side of novels, and essays and short stories are usually considered trailers for bigger publications (e.g. collections of essays). Media in Serbia is much more interested in presenting the creative output of Olga Tokarczuk than it is in Croatia. The forms of promotion and activity in this regard are also much more intense in Serbia than in Croatia, which is in part due to Milica Markić - a Serbian translator of Polish literature.
