Abstract

Recent technical and technological advances in field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) ignited interest in industry to envisage on WSNs for their process monitoring and control. Smaller switching time and low power consumption characteristic made WSNs suitable for Industrial application. The sensor nodes have limited battery, memory, size, and computation capability. These resource crunches require an effective routing protocol that can provide real-time data delivery with extending network life. The paper presents an overview of two-hop information based routing protocols. Moreover, presents a new gradient based routing protocol for Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks (IWSNs). That provides real-time data delivery by forwarding packets to its optimum forwarding node on the basis of two-hop neighbor information. The results show that proposed routing protocol improves end-to-end Deadline Packet Reception Rate (DPRR) with prolonging the network life time.
