Abstract
We present an angle-resolved photoemission study of the valence band of Au/ ( 3 × 3 ) − R 30 ° -4H-SiC(0 0 0 1). Several different two-dimensional states could be identified, depending on the Au coverage and annealing temperature. In the case of silicide at the surface, two-dimensional Shockley-like state is observed for higher coverages, but a potential interface state is observed at low coverages of Au. In the case of a gold film at the surface a true, confined Shockley-type surface state is observed.
