Abstract

This paper discusses the synchronous operation of a brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM). Basic operation theory of a ducted rotor BDFRM is reviewed, and mathematical analysis relating to synchronous operation is presented. Corresponding control strategy for synchronous speed operation is discussed. A prototype machine is built and implemented as a motor drive. Subsequently, the BDFRM drive is tested in synchronous mode of operation at varying speed levels and loads.
