Abstract

Effects of inelastic two-step processes on (p,t) reactions in a transition region between spherical and strongly deformed nuclei have been investigated using the 144,148,150,154Sm(p,t) 142,146,148,152Sm reactions at Ep=25.5 MeV. The analysis of angular distributions reported gives a unique example of combined single- and multi-step reaction mechanisms for the two-neutron transfer reaction leading to low-lying collective states. The authors' calculations are based on the coupled-channel Born approximation, which takes account of inelastic transitions in both the target and final nucleus.
