Abstract
Reactions of N,2-dihydroxy-3-methoxybenzamide (H3L) with transition metal acetates in the presence of pyridine and/or 2,2′-bipyridine under solvothermal conditions give two pentanuclear complexes, [Zn5L2(CH3COO−)4(py)3] (1) and [Co5L2(CH3COO−)4(py)(2,2′-bipy)2] (2). Photoluminescence studies indicate strong purple emission for 1 in the solid state at room temperature. Variable-temperature dc magnetic susceptibility studies of 2 reveal that antiferromagnetic CoII···CoII exchange interactions exist in 2.
