Abstract

Bioluminescence, being a fascinating adaptive manifestation of the animal kingdom, is displayed mostly by the insects belonging to the family Lampyridae, under the order Coleoptera. Two lampyrid species Abscondita terminalis (Olivier, 1883) and Triangulara frontoflava Pimpasalee, 2016 are recorded for the first time from India. Diagnosis, description of male genitalia, photographs of adult males, materials examined, distribution, remarks on habitat preference, and distribution pattern for both the species have been highlighted. A comprehensive checklist and key to Indian species of the genus Abscondita are also presented.
