Abstract

Two specimens of isorophid edrioasteroids encrusting conulariid remains are described from the Lower Devonian Hunsruck Slate of Germany. The Hunsruck Slate fauna is known for its well-preserved and diverse echinoderm fauna. Despite the great number of echinoderm fossils preserved, especially crinoids and stelleroids, reports of edrioasteroids have been limited to a few specimens of a single species ofRhenopyrgus. The specimens described herein represent the first documentation of encrusting isorophid edrioasteroids in the Hunsruck Slate. Unfortunately, known specimens are poorly preserved limiting classification to ordinal-level. Preservation of the edrioasteroids and conulariids suggests that the conulariids were alive when encrusted.
