Abstract

To further reduce the latency of successive cancellation list (SCL) decoding algorithm for polar code in ultralow latency system, two detection codes, i.e., internet checksum (ICS) and weighted sum codes (WSC), are proposed to check the candidates as substitutes for cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The designed concatenated coding scheme uses the detection code as the outer code and polar code as the inner code where the proposed detection code outputs the path which passes the corresponding check. The proposed detection codes combine powerful error detection capability with efficient hardware implementation. Simulation results show that the WSC-aided SCL decoder performs as well as the CRC-aided SCL with significant check latency reduction. Meanwhile, the ICS-aided SCL decoder, which can be implemented efficiently and flexibly, achieves similar error performance in low and medium list size regimes and slight performance loss as the list size increases.
