Abstract

The instability of the ground state electronic structure of two-electron spherical quantum dot (QD) is analyzed by using a Chandrasekhar-type trial function with an unknown correlation function and its transition from open-shell to closed-shell for small values of QD radius is found. The behavior of the two-electron ground state energy as a function of the radius of the spherical QD with soft-edge-potential for different values of the diffuse layers thickness is described.
