Abstract
This paper attempts to divide the Permian ammonoids and the paleogeographical environments into two ecological patterns, the restricted sea pattern and the open-sea pattern. The former represents a new shallow-water pattern which evolved within the epicontinental sea with some barriers. It has been emphasized that the differances in facies should be considered in making regional correlation of the ammonoid-bearing strata.
