These two–dimensional wave systems are asymptotic solutions of the nonlinear problem as the abscissa (distance to the headwall) tends to infinity. They are quasi–linearly spatially amplified and represent, in fact, a kind of equilibrium with the linearly accelerated base flow. The problem is solved by an asymptotic expansion in terms of the inverse–squared abscissa and also by a less rigorous but more convenient method. The results are successfully compared to direct numerical simulations. It is then suggested that these states play a role in the behaviour of a cold–flow set–up called VECLA, even if no accurate comparison with experimental work is possible.
