Abstract

We have measured positron lifetime and Doppler-broadening spectra for exfoliated grafoil having different coverages of physisorbed monolayers of ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ at 77 K. The lifetime spectra have been resolved into three exponentials and the Doppler-broadening spectra have been analyzed in terms of the shape parameter. The lifetime components, their relative intensities, and the shape parameter are sensitive to ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ coverage. These results are discussed in terms of the ``local'' density of surface electrons, positron work function, and defects.
