Abstract

Developing highly active and durable multifunctional catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a practical and challenge task. In this work, two-dimensional (2D) Co3O4 nanosheet-loaded Ru is designed via phosphorization (Ru-CoP) or oxidation (Ru-Co3O4) processes. Benefiting from the unique ultrathin nanosheet structure and the modulation of the electronic structure by atomic doping, Ru-CoP exhibits good HER (47 mV@1 M KOH, 80 mV@0.5 M H2SO4 and 107 mV@1 M PBS to achieve 10 mA cm−2) activity in a wide pH range. Not only that, Ru-Co3O4 has excellent OER (269 mV@10 mA cm−2) and ORR (E1/2@0.79 V) performances. The electrolyzer assembled by Ru-CoP and Ru-Co3O4 catalysts can be stimulated by renewable energies, demonstrating its great potential in clean energy production and conversion.
