Abstract

After a series of fire accidents in tunnels had occurred, it was obvious that there is an urgent need to investigate the fire behaviour of real fire loads in tunnels. During the Eureka Project EU 499, 11 fire tests with road and rail vehicles were carried out. In this report some of the temperature and measurements of light obscuration plus carbon monoxide measurements carried out are described and compared with defined limit values. In most cases the measured values exceed the limit values.
