This issue is explored with reference to the case of a medium-size airline for whom a major uninsured accident could destroy the company's capital base and put it out of business. Thus the handling of insurance is a key management issue. In particular, the paper addresses some critical outlets in insurance management, such as the role of the insurance manager, the relationships with the broker and some technical aspects that are integral parts of the day-by-day decision making process.
