Abstract

In the evolvement of Passive Optical Network (PON), the performance of hybrid Wavelength-Time Division Multiplexing based PON (WDM-TDM PON) is directly determined by the network architecture. This letter proposes a Tunable Wavelength Converter (TWC) based switching structure (TWC-SS) for WDM/TDM hybrid PON. Using the tunable wavelength converter technology, this Switch Node is designed and introduced into the hybrid WDM/TDM PON. Improved performances brought by the Switch Node on packet loss rate, bandwidth-utilization rate are proved by experimental results.
