Abstract

Trivalent Dysprosium (Dy 3+ ) activated garnet structured Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 (LLZO) phosphors were synthesized by conventional solid state reaction method. The phase structure of the prepared Dy 3+ doped LLZO powders was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) studies indicated a change in morphology and an increase in the area of the intergranular Li–Al–O liquid layer is observed with the increase of Li and dopant concentrations. Composition analysis of the prepared samples was examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. PL emission band observed at 579 nm was assigned to 4 F 9/2 - 6 H 13/2 transition in yellow region under the ultraviolet excitation wavelength of 351 nm. White light emission was confirmed by the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) chromatic coordinate graph. Thermoluminescence studies were carried out and the results indicated that the grown phosphors are suitable for industrial dosimetric applications where high doses are needed to be measured.
