Abstract

Guanidinopropyl end-modified poly(ethylene glycol) (Gu-PEG) with the molecular weight of 500, 2000, or 5000 has been synthesized and formed the mono-ion complex (MIC) with plasmid DNA (pDNA). The resulting MICs were locally injected into skeletal muscle in mice. By use of Gu-PEG with the molecular weight of 5,000, the resulting gene expression of pDNA was maximal. The molecular weight of PEG chain length in MICs has tuned the gene expression in skeletal muscle.
